I like outlines. Outlines are a good idea.

So is this the mole in a cartoon series that you're talking about? It does sound like you can argue about the universal appeal of the show/character as well as proving it with references to other articles or pictures of it being represented around the world (yes, including in China). It'll be interesting to read; I look forward to seeing the real article!
